Yield: 3 Servings
Preparation Time: 5 mins
Standing Time: 3-4 hours
Cooking Time: 10 mins

This is very healthy dish for new mothers. It is quick and easy with less ingredients and high nutritional value. This dish can be helpful to cure anemia. Aliv also improves digestion and very helpful to strengthen back. Pregnant woman could also have this once in while. However, excessive intake has not been suggested as it increases heat in body.

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup aliv (halim seeds\garen cress seeds)
  • 1/2 cup jaggery
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 tbsp assorted dry fruits
  • Milk as per your taste

Method:
  1. Soak aliv in sufficient water(approximately 1 1/2 cup) for 3-4 hours. Aliv should get swollen.
  2. After 3-4 hours, put these aliv on medium flame and let it cook for 5-10 mins. Stir occasionally. Color will get little denser.
  3. Add jaggery and crushed dry fruits. Wait till jaggery gets incorporated completely.
  4. Add cardamom powder and remove it form heat.
  5. While Serving add milk as per taste to it.
  6. This can be consumed without milk as well. In that case reduce jaggery amount.
  7. Instead of adding dry fruits, Sunthawada can be added to this which increases its nutritional value even more.

Haliv is supposedly not to be taken with milk.. Since it hampers iron absorption... My mother-in-law makes it with grated coconut and hint of jaggery in plain water... Tastes awesome
