Bread Upma

This is really simple dish with less preparation and yet very tasty. Sometimes, we could not finish a packet full of bread in a day. This is very good option to finish your leftover bread.

Ingredients:
  • 4 cups bread cubes (around 7-8 slices)
  • 1 1/2 cups sliced onion
  • 1 tbsp chopped green chillies
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp roasted peanuts
  • 1 tbsp pandharpuri dal/ udad dal (roast it well if using udad dal)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 8-9 curry leaves
  • 3-4 tbsp oil
  • salt as per taste
  • finely chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:
  1. Heat oil in pan. Add mustard seeds. Wait till it crackles.
  2. Add cumin seeds and pinch of asafoetida.
  3. Add curry leaves and chillies. Sauté them.
  4. Add peanuts, dal and onion. Sauté them until onion gets translucent.
  5. Add sugar and lemon juice. Stir well.
  6. Add turmeric powder. Stir again.
  7. Add bread cubes and mix everything well.
  8. Cover it for 2-3 mins.
  9. Give a nice stir before serving. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
