Fried Modak/ Talaniche Modak

Yield: 15-20 small modak
Preparation Time: 45 mins
Cooking Time
: 10-15 mins

Ingredients:
For cover:

  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp rawa/semolina/ sooji
  • salt as per taste
  • 1 tsp ghee/oil
  • Oil for frying

For stuffing:
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp raisins (optional)
  • 1 tsp slivered almonds(optional)
  • 2 tsp roasted poppy seeds


Method:

  1. Mix all ingredients for cover together and knead a dough (similar for chapati) adding water to it. Let it rest for 10-15 mins.
  2. Mix all ingredients for stuffing together.
  3. Take a small ball from dough and roll it to thin puri.
  4. Put stuffing in it and close it forming nice plates to look it like modak.
  5. Form all Modak and then start frying in pan with hot oil on medium flame.

Tips:
Stuffing for this Modak can be replaced with stuffing for Steamed Modak.
