Mattha\ Spiced Buttermilk

Yield: 2 cups
Total Time: 10 mins

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp chat masala (optional)
  • salt and black salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
For tempering:
  • 1-2 tsp oil
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • pinch of asafoetida

Buttermilk substitution:
  • 1/2 cup thick and sour yogurt
  • 1 1/2 - 2 cup water

Method:
  1. Beat yogurt till smooth. Add water to it. Buttermilk is ready.
  2. Add sugar, salt,black salt, cumin powder, chat masala. Mix it well.
  3. Heat oil for tempering. Add mustard seeds. Wait till crackles.
  4. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  5. Add this tempering to prepared buttermilk.
  6. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve with meal.
