Yield: 3-4 Servings
Preparation Time: 30 mins
Cooking Time: 30 mins

This healthy dish is prepared adding Shepu (Dill leaves), dal and few indian herbs. It needs few and easily available ingredients. This dish can be served to new mothers, kids and actually to anyone. New mothers might get bored of eating leafy vegetables but this version will make it tasty. This dish is not spicy so even kids and toddlers can also enjoy it.

Try this recipe and let me know your feedback.

Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup split Red gram (Tuar Dal)
  • 1 cup chopped shepu (dill leaves)
  •  1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/4 + 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
Method:
  1. Cook dal completely in pressure cooker adding around 1-2 cups of water, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder. Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.
  2. Allow steam to escape before opening cooker lid. Blend dal till smooth.
  3. Once cooked dal is ready, heat oil in pan. Add mustard seeds. Wait till they crackles.
  4. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, ginger garlic paste. Sauté them.
  5. Add Shepu and salt. Sauté it well till it gets shrinked. Add turmeric powder.
  6. Add cooked dal along with water. Let it boil.
  7. Meanwhile, start rolling thin chapati. Cut into small pieces with knief.
  8. Add these pieces one by one in boiling dal. Do not add all at a time because they will stick to each other forming a big lump.
  9. Cover the pan. Let chapati pieces cook. This take around 15-20 minutes. Check if those pieces are cooked.
  10. Remove from heat once cooked and serve hot adding ghee.

Tips:

  1. Tuar dal can be replaced with any other dal(moong dal) which suits you.
  2. Add more water if dal starts thickening while cooking.
